Romain, 23, looks back on his journey and his ambitious personal website project. Meet a funny and driven student.
What was your path before joining Digital Campus?
I joined DC Rennes after a BTS in Sales Management and a professional bachelor's degree in e-commerce. My two qualifications allowed me to enter the Expert in Digital Strategy Master's program directly in the first year. I chose this program because I want to specialise in a promising field, and I believe it will significantly boost my profile with future employers.
DC Rennes organises a number of talks by professionals — which one caught your attention, and why?, The UX design conference organised by Florentin Jakupi [instructor at DC Rennes], who is also my design teacher. His talk gave me a much better understanding of the latest trends in managing the relationship between the client and the designer — in this case, me (smiles). And as I mentioned, I attend his classes throughout the year, and I have already developed several valuable skills in design. Combined with that specific UX design conference, I hope to be able to showcase my knowledge effectively in interviews and ultimately become a project manager., Are you developing a personal project?, At DC Rennes, I met three classmates who quickly became close friends, and we decided to create a blog together. We wanted to build something original, which is quite a challenge today given how accessible the internet is worldwide. But we didn't give up, and one evening, a fairly unique idea came to us: a blog centred on fly fishing! (smiles)., Not only did we find the concept original, but two of us were already avid practitioners of the sport and had extensive knowledge on the subject. We then built the website Flytailleur from scratch, and we regularly post news about fishing techniques, the most exotic spots for the sport — basically whatever comes to mind that we want to share with others! (smiles).
Going forward, will you need your school's support in developing your project, and if so, how?, Yes, and I think it is necessary because the DC Rennes network is quite extensive and supportive. Maintaining a website requires a great deal of time and effort in terms of management, development, and constant adaptation to the various problems that continually arise. We would love to recruit an intern from DC, as it is a serious mark of competence for us and an interesting challenge for a motivated student. We would also like to help students who want to launch their own site but don't necessarily have the right reflexes from the start., Where are you doing your work-study placement? Can you describe the main activity of your company? What is your role within it?, I am on a work-study placement at Explore in Nantes, an IT company that provides clients with solutions in the areas of competitive intelligence and data management. In short, we sell software primarily to SMEs and micro-businesses to help them optimise and boost their information systems overall. These solutions are mainly aimed at companies operating in marketing, construction, and real estate., My role at Explore is as a community manager. I manage the company's image on social media by providing appropriate content and responding to users' messages across the various social platforms the firm uses (Facebook, Twitter, Google+). I also moderate comments and keep a close eye on competitors' communication campaigns to adjust our internal strategy. I hope to learn from this SME experience and eventually move into a larger organisation.
