Monmaster.gouv or ecandidat: the only gateway to a master's degree?

The Monmaster.gouv.fr platform was created by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation to help students find master's programmes in France within the public education system. It is, in a way, the big sister of Parcoursup.

However, Digital Campus offers another route to a master's-level programme. The programmes offered by our school across several cities in France are not listed on Monmaster, and they include work-study programmes designed to give you the practical experience required in digital careers for a successful entry into the workforce.

Launched in February 2023, the Monmaster.gouv.fr platform is managed by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. Like Parcoursup, its counterpart for undergraduate studies, it enables students holding (or in the process of obtaining) a bachelor's degree or equivalent to find information (programmes, locations, duration, teaching methods, etc.) and submit applications for master's programmes at public higher education institutions in France.

To refine their search, students can apply filters based on their own criteria: scholarship availability, location, language of instruction, doctoral pathway options, etc.

What programmes are listed on the Monmaster.gouv.fr platform?

Currently, only public higher education programmes are listed on the platform. RNCP-certified titles, although recognised by the Ministry of Labour, are not included.

How do you apply, and how many applications can you submit on Mon Master?

Applicants can submit up to 15 applications for master's programmes. They also have the option to submit 15 additional applications for work-study programmes.

The application count is based on the master's specialisation (mention) at a specific institution: applying to multiple tracks within the same specialisation at the same institution counts as a single application.

To illustrate: if you apply to several tracks within the same master's specialisation, it will be counted as one application. For example, if you apply for the "Private Law" specialisation at university X, it will count as a single application even if you apply for the tracks "Real Estate Transaction Law", "Private Law and Legal Careers", and "General Private Law" within that specialisation.

Why apply outside the platform and choose Digital Campus?

  • Receive a quick response regarding your admission (within a maximum of 2 weeks).
  • Benefit from a professionally-oriented programme thanks to a project-based teaching approach, the DC Start internal pre-incubator, and a work-study contract from the first year of the Master's.
  • Start your work-study search as early as possible.
  • Choose a programme with a State-recognised RNCP level 7 qualification.

How long can you provisionally accept an offer on Mon Master?

For each offer received in response to your applications, you have three options:

  1. Decline it,
  2. Provisionally accept it (if you wish to wait for a potential offer from a programme where you are on a waiting list),
  3. Definitively accept it.

Key Points to Note

  • You can only definitively accept one offer. The other places you were holding will then be redistributed to other applicants.
  • This step is crucial for helping you secure a place on a master's programme that matches your goals.
  • Previously, in the absence of an official withdrawal, some places were only freed up very late, delaying their redistribution to other applicants.
  • It is also advisable to respond within 24 hours of receiving your offer. You generally have a maximum of 48 hours to make your decision.
  • Regarding work-study programmes, a positive admission decision from the institution is conditional upon the conclusion of a work-study contract.

After a licence or a bachelor's degree, where can you continue your studies?

To pursue a five-year degree after a licence or bachelor's degree, it is possible to join university institutes (universities, IAE, IEP, etc.), public higher education schools (engineering schools, etc.), or private higher education schools (business schools, digital schools, etc.).

To do so, you can either submit your choices on the Monmaster.gouv.fr platform or follow the admissions process of individual schools.

How does registration on the platform work?

The Mon Master platform is intended for students holding (or in the process of obtaining) a national licence degree or another qualification giving access to a master's curriculum. This applies to French students as well as nationals of the European Economic Area, Andorra, Switzerland, or Monaco.

Exceptions to the System

Certain applicants are not eligible for this system:

  • Applicants of foreign nationality (with the exception of nationals of the European Economic Area, Andorra, Switzerland, or Monaco) whose country of residence benefits from the Etudes en France scheme.
  • Students authorised to repeat their first year of a master's programme.
  • Applicants wishing to be admitted to the first year of a master's programme via higher education credit recognition (VES). In addition, the prior learning assessment procedure (VAP) is not managed through the platform.

Special Cases

Finally, some specific programmes do not use the national platform for first-year master's recruitment, including certain internationally-focused master's programmes. It is therefore necessary to contact the relevant institutions directly to apply for these programmes.

Why you should not limit your search to the platform?

The platform only manages the available places in master's programmes offered by public institutions or institutions under contract with the public sector, with the aim of distributing places fairly and efficiently.

It therefore does not feature Master's programmes, specialised MBAs, or MBAs offered by private schools. To find out more about the difference between a master's and a mastere. Choosing a five-year programme outside the Monmaster.gouv.fr platform allows you to:

  1. Open yourself up to more possibilities, particularly private institutions or institutions abroad.
  2. Move towards a professionally-oriented programme, as public education often places less emphasis on this aspect in its teaching approach.
  3. Obtain more detailed information about programmes, objectives, and content, as the platform has character limitations. Seeking information directly from institutions allows for more comprehensive and personalised guidance.

While the Monmaster.gouv platform can be a valuable resource for students looking for master's-level programmes, it is also recommended to seek information directly from institutions. This gives you a more complete picture and access to personalised support.
