Before discussing the differences between these two programmes, let's list the common features that connect them:
- Both programmes can be entered in the 1st year after obtaining the French high school diploma (Baccalauréat), or directly in the 3rd year after completing a two-year higher education qualification (Bac +2)
- Both offer internship or work-study periods
- Upon completion, it is possible to continue towards a five-year degree (Bac +5)
What are the differences?
The university Licence degrees take place at university, whereas Bachelor's degrees are offered by private schools. Bachelor's degrees differ from Licence degrees in the importance given to real-world company projects. This is why, at Digital Campus Montpellier, the professional focus of the programme remains the priority.
From the very first year of the programme, students are placed in real-life situations (projects, challenges, hackathons, etc.) in order to quickly acquire concrete, operational knowledge that supports entry into the job market once they graduate.
This year, students at Digital Campus Montpellier were able to develop and refine their skills during the hackathon held in partnership with the Opéra Orchestre National de Montpellier (OONM). For 48 hours, students were challenged to devise "an innovative digital communication strategy to broaden the audience of the Opéra Orchestre National de Montpellier". They then delivered a 10-minute pitch to present their recommendations on the stage of the Molière hall at the Opera house.
This type of project is highly beneficial for students because, in addition to being confronted with a genuine business problem, they must be able to deliver high-quality group work and defend their projects with well-constructed, structured arguments, just as in a company.
In addition to these real-world projects, in the Bachelor's programme at Digital Campus Montpellier, students must complete an internship lasting from 2 to 6 months in the 1st and 2nd years, followed by an alternating-schedule internship or a work-study placement in the 3rd year. Of course, Digital Campus Montpellier supports students in their search for internships and work-study placements, in particular by organising meetings within the school with companies, by providing job offers, and by showcasing CVs and online portfolios.
