From 10 June to 10 July 2016, UEFA EURO 2016 took place in Bordeaux. It was on this occasion that Instappen, a project and application developed by Pierre Lauret, a freshly graduated second-year student in the Master's Expert in Digital Strategy at Digital Campus, made its very first appearance at an internationally significant event. This project served as Pierre's end-of-studies entrepreneurship project as part of his Master's programme. It was a tremendous opportunity for Pierre to unveil his application to the world during such a prestigious event.
Instappen, the community wall via Instagram, is a real-time interactive experience that enables the display and encouragement of mobile interactions during an event. The photos published and selected were then linked to a Social Wall on the EURO 2016 website.

The Bordeaux web school responded to the call for projects launched by Bordeaux Métropole and UEFA. Pierre's project was selected by the official committee as it met the expectations of the original brief: to facilitate the involvement of Greater Bordeaux residents around EURO 2016 by creating a tool that generates conversation through interactive, participatory and playful exchanges.

This objective addressed a dual need presented by Bordeaux Métropole:

  • Designing workshops, applications and exhibitions centred on digital technology and football.
  • Involving visitors, supporters and spectators of the event.

It was also a way to create resonance around EURO 2016 through strong social media virality at a low cost.

In this context, 8 students from the Bachelor's in Web Project Management years 1 and 2 at Digital Campus (Matthieu D'Elbée and Charlotte Nalpas from Bachelor year 2, Julie Jacquot, Louis Cobigo, Clément Andrés, Anaïs Beguerie, Loris Courribet and Yannick Ninot from Bachelor year 1) took on the role of mediators to promote and encourage participation in the application. Their on-site mission at the FanZone was to introduce visitors to the app by explaining the game concept, detailing how the application worked and the steps to follow to win prizes, including tickets to the quarter-final on 2 July.

Julie Jacquot, a first-year Bachelor's student in web project management at Digital Campus, shares her experience: «As part of EURO 2016, we are doing a placement at the Bordeaux FanZone to promote an application, Instappen. To do this, we invite people at the FanZone to take part in a game. They simply need to take a photo on Instagram using the hashtag #EUROabordeaux.»

Instappen was received as a very interesting and innovative application, according to Matthieu D'Elbée, a Bachelor year 2 student. Others, like Anaïs Béguerie, feel that the application is a great idea and that it brings everyone together for any kind of major event. She also tells us that this placement gave her the opportunity to take part in one of the most important events of 2016, as well as to improve her ability to explain a digital solution to the general public. For Louis Cobigo, a first-year student, the placement gave him greater confidence in public speaking and allowed him to practise his English in real-world conditions.

Some students even shared ideas for developing the application further: «The Instappen app is great for both individuals and professionals. If a private person organises an event — a birthday party, for example — they can simply create a hashtag for their guests to use, making it easy to find all the photos from the event. And why not display them live on a wall during the event? For professionals, the same applies — for events, conferences, and so on.» What a source of inspiration!

We asked them to sum up their experience as mediators at EURO 2016. Among the keywords they mentioned: #event #teamspirit #goal #alltogether. To say the least, they were pretty unanimous in their choice of vocabulary! Yet another testament to the values of unity that are deeply embedded in Digital Campus.
