Within the Campus Région du Numérique, the students of Digital Campus Lyon share their premises with deaf students from the Signes et Formations school.
They are trained as Web Designers and benefit from classes taught entirely in sign language by experienced deaf instructors.
As part of the partnerships with Signes et Formations and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, our students currently have the opportunity to take sign-language classes on Thursdays from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
The training spans 30 hours over 15 weeks. Our 6 Digital Campus Lyon students will complete the training at the end of April.
On the agenda, learning in sign language to: introduce yourself, answer simple questions, and express your feelings.
But they will also discover numbers, the alphabet and colours.
The aim of this partnership is to introduce people to sign language, but also to foster diversity on campus so as to allow deaf students to communicate with hearing students from the other schools.
Our students are very enthusiastic about and motivated by this training. Jerome Michoux and Mélanie Burtin – second-year Web Bachelor students – told us: “ We are happy to be able to communicate with our neighbours at Signes et Formations through learning sign language, and it is an opportunity for us to learn a new language. We want to be able to fully include them.”
The partnership between Digital Campus and Signes et Formations will also be on display on March 14 during the “Dessine-moi un Métier Digital” event #DMUMD, which will have as its theme “RESPONSIBLE DIGITAL.”
The Digital Campus students organising the event reached out to Signes et Formations to invite them to run a workshop in sign language, with an interpreter.
