This project is led by the association of the Wine Culture and Tourism Centre (CCTV). It was created in 2009 by the City of Bordeaux, the Bordeaux Urban Community (CUB), the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB) and the Bordeaux Wine Inter-Professional Council (CIVB). The Aquitaine Region joined the association in 2010.
A link between peoples and an object of exchange, sharing and passion, vines and wine represent a universal heritage. The Wine Culture and Tourism Centre aims to present to the public every facet of this heritage, which shapes landscapes, forges our history, fires the imagination and enhances our way of life. Considering that wine labels fully belong to this heritage, both as graphic art and iconography and as historical testimony, the association believes it is part of its mission to build a reference collection in this field.
THE PROJECT ENTRUSTED TO DIGITAL CAMPUS
The project aims to offer the public — wine enthusiasts or simply the curious, but also wine merchants and oenologists, researchers or students in graphic design, packaging design and marketing, designers, legal experts and the specialist press — access to a large number of label visual references from around the world.
This virtual collection will bear witness to the diversity of representations and, through it, to the place of wine in the societies that produce, sell and consume it. The historical dimension of this collection, which will bring together both old specimens and recent creations, will constitute a documentary source of great interest. In the short term, the objective for Digital Campus students is to create a collaborative tool in order to begin building the label database.
